FIREFLY

The Firefly music festival takes place every summer in the Woodlands surrounding Dover, DE, and the 2021 weekend will mark the 10th anniversary of this campsite party.  Guests can pay for a general admission pass, a VIP pass, a Super VIP pass or a Suite package for the weekend; more money entails different VIP viewing areas, different drinks and food included and different accommodations. Along with enjoying the musical guests, many different bar stations and food vendors are set up around the various stages for any guest to enjoy.

The 2019 lineup was star-studded, with Panic! At the Disco, Travis Scott and Post Malone headlining, and over 50,000 people attended, according to Matt Moore and Maddy Lauria from The News Journal. According to an article from the Delaware Governor’s Office in 2014, Delaware officials recognize the financial impact that the festival has for the regional economy, with total tax contributions of $68 million for the 2014 festival alone, which had about 80,000 fans attend to see Foo Fighters, Outkast and Jack Johnson headline. “As Firefly has grown, so has its impact on our state,” former Delaware gov. Jack Markell said. “We look forward to having Firefly continue to bring fans and economic activity to Delaware for years to come.”

In this same article, Firefly Music Festival executive director Greg Bostrom said, “When we launched Firefly in 2012, we had the lofty goal of making it one of the largest music festivals in the country. As we head into our fourth year, we’re excited to see it make the economic impact we hoped it would. It’s great to bring joy to tens of thousands of festival goers each year and help strengthen the economy in the process.” The festival would have strengthened the regional economy even more this year, but unfortunately the 2020 weekend was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. According to a statement on Firefly’s website, the whole team was “deeply disappointed by this difficult decision, one that impacts our fans and our incredible team of performers, crew, vendors & our community in Dover, Delaware. In these unprecedented times, we send you our love. Thank you for your support and we look forward to welcoming you in the Woodlands in June 2021 where we will dance, sing and celebrate live music together.”
